Windows MultiPoint Server Enables Modern Classrooms in Lean Times
![]()
Historically, the growth in public education funds lag behind any economic recovery in the national economy. This creates real hardships for schools, teachers, and students in delivering and receiving a modern education. As a company, Microsoft globally focuses on strategic technologies that enable more learners to get access to technology in lean economic times. The next release of Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 continues to help schools get and use modern technology for learning by using components they already own.
Windows MultiPoint Server works in a variety of scenarios to help schools choose an approach that works for their classrooms, resources, and budgets.
Computer Lab Layout. In this setup, the stations are arranged around the walls of the room, with the students are facing the walls.

Groups. In this setup, there are three computers that are running MultiPoint Server with stations clustered around each computer.

Lecture Room. In this setup, the stations are set up in rows. An advantage of this setup is that all of the students face the teacher.

Activity Center. This setup consists of a traditional lecture-room layout for the desks and a single MultiPoint Server and its associated stations.

Windows MultiPoint Server uses a PC to host other PC stations through a network hub of video and USB. For schools that may not have funds to upgrade all of their physical hardware for Windows 7, Windows MultiPoint is a great way to modernize without the investment in new hardware. Simply keep your keyboards, mice, and desktop monitors and you have the ingredients necessary to provide Windows 7 for all of your students.
The diagrams above can be found in the Windows MultiPoint Server 2010 Planning Guide. You can find more information about Windows MultiPoint Server here.
