<itunes:subtitle>Can I trust my college, university, or government agency with my personal data and protecting my privacy? A valid question that Microsoft is working on solutions to enable trust in federated identity networks.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This week, I am attending the InCommon CAMP in Raleigh, NC. There are lots of colleges and universities of all sizes represented at the CAMP. Each of them are all exploring and furthering the benefits of federated identity standards and technologies. I would encourage more schools and universities to begin this journey to federated identity sooner rather than later. The benefits to students, faculty, researchers, and staff will be profound. By participating with InCommon, schools and universities will accelerate building the knowledge capital and best practice-sharing needed to adopt a federated identity strategy and solution that is effective and trustworthy. Before we can get to realizing the benefits of federated identity, we must begin to develop a system of trust that mimics the trust fabrics that we see in the real world. Below, I have including a short video of how Microsoft is incorporating U-Prove technologies with federated identity to enable students and citizens to protect and manage their privacy when participating in higher education federated networks. Regardless of the technologies employed to implement a federated identity infrastructure, we cannot forget that the identities we are federating are from real people. People, more specifically our students, faculty, and staff, need to feel confidence and trust in the systems, people, process, and policies that enable these transformative services are also protecting their privacy. (http://img.microsoft.com/showcase/silverlight/player/1/img/en/install.gif)(http://m.webtrends.com/ dcsygm2gb10000kf9xm7kfvub_9p1t/njs.gif?dcsuri=/nojavascript&WT.js=No) Here’s the question: If funding, leadership support, and overall readiness were not roadblocks, what would prevent or delay you from implemented an identity federation at your college or university? Leave your answer, comments, and/or thoughts below. Resources: * Microsoft U-Prove Community Technology Preview (http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/twc/endtoendtrust/vision/uprove.aspx) * InCommon CAMP (https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/CAMP/Home) * Claims-Based Identity for Windows (http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/D/0/7D0B5166-6A8A-418A-ADDD-95EE9B046994/Claims-Based%20Identity%20for%20Windows.pdf) </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Most often, I write about education, the business of learning, innovation, and technology. However, I wanted to take a break to share a little bit of what I do when I am not thinking about "what's next?" That the topic is music.

Since 1995, I have used both Windows and Macintosh PCs for songwriting, sequencing, and recording. In the past, I had to have a dedicated synthesizer and outboard gear for all of the music production. Recently, my Bride encouraged me to rebuild and update my home studio. I started down the same path I did years prior with buying a bunch of outboard gear, software, and computers. Then I realized that is so 20th Century when I came across the innovators at Open Labs (http://www.openlabs.com/ultimatestudio.html).

(http://higherinnovation.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/DSC03870.jpg) Open Labs is a Microsoft partner that builds the most innovative instruments for music making and production with Windows 7 as its canvas. I wished I had known about Open Labs before I ever spent a dime because there products would have saved me a lot of money in setting up my studio.

I have an Open Labs Gen4 Miko. It is the Special Edition Timbaland Miko created in honor of the platinum hitmaker Tim "Timbaland (http://www.timbalandmusic.com/)" Mosley. If you do not know who Timbaland is, ask your children or grandchildren. He is most likely on their portable music player or ringtone.

The Open Labs Miko has every sound and instrument imaginable and many I have never imagined. This is my natural user interface (http://higherinnovation.net/education/2010/05/27/interface-utilisateur-naturel/). It is Microsoft Windows and inspiration. It is my instrument and canvas. It is one of my production and recording studios. If you get an Open Labs instrument for your school music or video production program, you will will save a lot of time and money.

Open Labs (http://www.openlabs.com/) just announced their Gen6 Family running Windows 7 and Intel's 2010 Core family. Today, you can get a more powerful Miko or Niko than I have. So visit, the Open Labs (http://www.openlabs.com/) site and explore what you can do with Windows 7, your creativity, and your music. You will see using Microsoft Windows in a whole new light when you do.

Before you ask, the answer is "no." My Miko SE is not for sale.</itunes:summary>
